How Amy Overcame Challenges to Earn CFP® Certification
As you think about your next steps on the journey to CFP® certification, Amy King, CFP® encourages you to overcome the obstacles that might stand in your way:
“In 2016, I was active military and reached a point where I knew I wanted to transition into financial planning. Not having any industry experience was a challenge, but I knew what I wanted and knew I had to be deliberate about my timeline. I enrolled into an education program, while still on active duty, and started my journey towards CFP® certification.
I had two big challenges to overcome when beginning my journey – time and industry experience. My timeline was tight. With a 5-year deadline to complete certification, I had to be well prepared to transition from retirement to actively accumulating experience hours. Through networking I was able to land a job with a great team of three CFP® professionals. Immediately, I was immersed into the elements of planning by working with existing clients, while also finding my own.
The CFP® certification process laid out by CFP Board was essential to me becoming a CFP® professional. It was clear and detailed on developing competent financial planners. CFP® certification provides the best possible combination of knowledge and ethics in the profession, especially for someone new to the industry.
The most important part when pursuing CFP® certification is finding the courage to START. Once you start, decide that absolutely no roadblock will prevent you from the completing the journey. It will be messy at times but, it’s worth every second of commitment.”
